I've been composing music for years, and what surprises me is how much I've developed and improved. Gone is the frequent use of basic chord progressions and - as EvilEggoWaffle describes it - "Knight's Tale" stylings, and in are time signatures, tempo changes, polyphonies, and other fancy music tricks that I've learned from listening to progressive rock and classical music. I think I can make a good album out of my ideas. It's just a matter of figuring out what I want to do.

Months ago, I thought about making an album with lyrics. Something with a singer/songwriter approach, since it seems like a good idea; I've always worn my feelings on my sleeve. Just a matter of articulating them in a concise, poetic manner that cooperates with the music. But maybe a purely instrumental album would work too. Lyrics aren't exactly something I'm used to writing anyway, and judging from the lyrics I have written, I think I have a long way to go.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the idea of making an album with just three long songs. About ten-minutes each. Heck, I might even try my hand at the inevitable "Side-Long Opus" that prog-rock bands end up doing at some point or another. I have loads of unfinished material that I could feasibly put together into cohesive epics, and I'm nearly done with my most ambitious song to date, Attention Deficit Disorder (Working Title). Alternatively, I could go for the quantity over length scenario and just make a collection of shorter songs. Either way, I want the material to be something worth buying.

I have this unfinished comedy track that's been sitting in my volts for a while called Death by Noise. It is about a guy walking into a party with Ke$ha-styled current-trend music and telling the MC to put on some good music, then being met with accusations of elitism. While I have an idea of where I want it to go musically, I just haven't gotten around to finishing it. I certainly would love to put it on an album though.

I've also considered putting music I've already released publically on it. If I were to do that, I'd want to expand and develop those tracks further so they'd be more worthwhile. I have a version of "Lucy's Destiny" in the works that is much longer (About five minutes so far) and more interesting than the original. That might make the cut, but only if I feel it's interesting and good enough to warrant it.

Oh! I also have this neat idea where I start the album with an over-the-top monologue about the pointlessness of life, with swelling strings/synths up to the concluding climax that says something along the lines of "We will all die someday, so why not make life pleasant while we can?" Then finally, it goes to the first music track. This is a bit concept-albumy though, so... I might save that for an album with some kind of lyrical thematic focus.

Only time will tell what will happen.
